A parliament by-election was held on April 7, 2009 in the parliamentary seat of Bukit Gantang, Perak. There was a turnout of 41,626 voters and whereby there were 456 spoilt votes. PAS candidate Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin defeated BN candidate Ismail Saffian by a majority of 2,789 votes.[1]
